Firearms Safety Information

PLEASE READ PRIOR TO USING 1791 GUNLEATHER PRODUCTS

Firearms are dangerous and should be kept out of reach of children. Only those individuals properly trained in the safe handling and use of firearms should ever handle a firearm. Improper use may result in serious injury or death.

Do not attempt to use or carry any firearm without first becoming thoroughly familiar with the proper and safe use of your firearm by completing a certified firearms safety program.

Testing a New Holster for Proper Fit

Do not holster a loaded gun without first testing the holster with an unloaded firearm to make sure the gun fits properly and that the gun can be safely drawn and re-holstered without unintentionally pulling the trigger.

Holsters are designed to fit factory equipped handguns. Any alteration to the handgun or addition of aftermarket accessories may cause improper holster fit and negligent discharge. Use this holster only with the handgun model it was designed and advertised to carry.

Do not modify your holster in any way.

1791 Gunleather is not responsible for typographical or human errors which can occur in the description of the firearm compatibility for our holsters. Final judgment of compatibility rests with the user.

The user is responsible for exercising sound judgment and discretion when checking for proper fit and retention. Do not use the holster if the fit is too tight or too loose. Maintain your holster and hardware by checking it regularly for signs of wear.

Stop using the product immediately if it becomes worn, loose, broken or ill-fitting. Failure to do so could result in a negligent discharge of your firearm causing injury or death.

Carrying a Handgun

Carrying a handgun with a live cartridge in the chamber immediately in front of the firing pin may cause an accidental discharge. Certain revolvers and most semi-automatic pistols should be carried with the hammer or firing pin resting on an empty chamber.

Always make sure your firearm is completely and securely seated in the holster before removing your hand from the grip. Always make sure your firearm is securely seated in the holster to prevent accidental loss of your firearm.

Never cock your handgun while it is holstered. Doing so may cause an accidental discharge or damage to your firearm.

Always use the correct ammunition and check to make sure the barrel is free of obstructions.

Holstering a Firearm

Always make sure the firearm is securely seated in the holster before removing your hand from the grip.

Firearms should fit in the holster with sufficient tension to retain the firearm during vigorous activity but must still allow a smooth, one-handed draw. The handgun should not move in the holster, yet it should not be so tight that it causes an unsafe draw.

Place your thumb on the back of the slide or hammer as you holster the firearm to keep the slide or hammer from moving to the rear as it enters the holster. Always make sure your fingers are off the trigger and outside of the trigger guard when drawing or holstering.

Firearm Retention

Firearms should always be fully seated in the holster and retention devices engaged when present. Retention straps should be used when provided. Holsters are not intended or designed to be used in place of a retention device during strenuous or physical activity. Holsters and hardware must be checked frequently for proper fit and function.

If your holster utilizes a tension screw:

  • Check tension screws with each use to ensure that the retention is secure.
  • Clear nail polish may be applied to tension screw threads to prevent screw back-out.
  • Check all hardware including belt clips and straps regularly for proper function.

Firearm Security

Carrying a firearm is a serious responsibility. Be aware of your surroundings and never allow your firearm to leave your direct control. It is your responsibility to ensure that your firearm is secure at all times. Law enforcement officers must follow their department policies regarding the use of off-duty or plainclothes holsters.
